You know I am tired of all these damn fandoms that claim if you don’t like EVERYTHING about whatever the fandom is about, you’re not a true fan and to go fuck off. Great example being that post about Pokemon. I have been with Pokemon from the beginning, I enjoy Generation 1-3, dislike 4, and liked 5 in the games. I stopped watching the show when Misty left because the story lines became redundant and every damn episode, “TEAM ROCKET IS BLASTING OFF AGAIN…….!” Does that make me not a fan? Because I dislike a generation and the show since Misty left? No, it just means I prefer some aspects of the franchise over others. Is it nostalgia? Sure, there may be a little nostalgia there, but that’s not the driving force. This extends out to other fandoms. Take the Nine Inch Nails fandom. So many fucking posts I see about if you don’t like all of Trent’s work you’re not a true fan. That is entirely untrue. As with all artists, some albums will appeal to a person more than others. I dislike the How To Destroy Angels EP. I’m not less of a fan of Trent, I just wasn’t grabbed by the music on it. And my final point: calling someone out and being complete dicks to them for their opinion isn’t the way to go about things. Politely disagree, have a discussion, see each other’s points, or just ignore it. But don’t go, “FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING PRICK YOU DON’T LIKE DER DE DER SO YOU ARE A DICK AND MUST BURN FOREVER IN HELL.” That just makes you the ass, not the original person who posted their opinion.
On that same note, when you are posting your opinion about something you like or dislike, don’t be a dick about that because you’ll bring trouble to yourself. Now I will admit I’m a bit of a hypocrite in this area, but I’m working on it. When you dislike something and you are legitimately posting your opinion on it, don’t go, “This fucking sucks.” Just say something like, “I don’t like this because….” or just leave it at, “I don’t like this.”
