I put them EVERYWHERE. On lockers, on doors, in bathrooms, on walls. I even put them in doorways. Thanks to my wonderful friend Nick, we did this at 6:10 in the morning, when school actually starts at 7:10. I didn’t want people to know it was me. So the day went on, these things were everywhere, and people were talking about them. People made facebook statuses about them.
In 3rd period, the kid next to me started talking about it, and how his teacher made them discuss why they think the person did it, and then write an essay about it. Teachers were emailing about it, and my advisement teacher came up to me and handed me a stack of papers, seen in the picture, and those papers were teacher emails. I even made teachers happy.
I’m making a difference, one little bit at a time.
In 5th period, some guy started talking about cutters, and him and I are pretty good friends. Well, I wore shorts today, so I stood up and showed him my thighs and ankles, and he got kinda quiet, until his friend asked why I did that to myself. At first, I started explaining about how it’s a coping mechanism, and blah blah blah, but then I got deeper into it.
The kid that asked, he’s a party kid, a popular kid. He sat there and listened, genuinely concerned. And I came to this conclusion.
I made these index cards because I know that i’m not the only one who’s been in that situation. Where you’re addicted to something that takes the pain away, where you want to feel better. When you feel less than perfect. If someone had put one of those cards in my hands a year ago, I might have stopped. I want to help.
If you need someone to talk to, I’m here. Anyone. I don’t care who you are. I love you all.
And most importantly, you’re all beautiful.
